Rothe House Kilkenny
Our senior classes took an educational trip to the heart of Kilkenny City to visit Rothe House and Gardens.
The property on a burgage plot is the only one of its type open to the public in Ireland. It was once the home of wealthy merchant and politician John Rothe Fitzpiers. He built the three-house complex for his wife Rose Archer and their eleven children between 1594 and 1610.
Students were given a fascinating tour by John Rothe himself which took them meandering through his beautiful home. John had an abrupt and cantankerous manner but relayed lots of fascinating information to the students.
We finished our visit with a picnic in the picturesque gardens before taking the bus back to school.
