SNAG Léitheoireacht Bheirte

7th Mar 2025

As part of Seachtain na Gaeilge, our Sixth Class students took on the role of mentors by reading Irish books with our Senior Infants and First Class pupils. This special paired reading activity brought a wonderful sense of community to our school while celebrating the Irish language in a fun and engaging way.

Paired reading has many benefits for both older and younger students. For the younger children, it helps to build confidence in reading Irish, improves pronunciation, and enhances their understanding of new vocabulary in a supportive setting. Listening to fluent readers also strengthens their comprehension and enjoyment of the language.

For our Sixth Class students, reading with younger pupils gave them the opportunity to develop leadership skills, reinforce their own Irish language abilities, and experience the joy of teaching and encouraging others. It was fantastic to see their enthusiasm as they guided the younger children through the stories, helping them to sound out words and understand the meaning of the text.

The excitement and engagement from all involved truly highlighted the importance of celebrating our Irish language. A huge well done to everyone who participated—it was a fantastic experience that showcased the power of teamwork and learning together!
