Apple Tree Planting with Junior & Senior Infants
24th Mar 2025
Last week, we had a very special visit from one of our junior infant parents, Gareth Kennedy.
Gareth kindly came in to plant three apple trees in the school field. This was a lovely experience for our junior and senior infants classes, who were invited out to be part of the planting process.
The páistí all lined up and took turns adding a shovel of soil to help tuck in the young trees. Once the planting was complete, we marked the occasion with a toast - using apple juice, of course!
Afterwards, there was just enough time for a quick roll down the hill before the rain arrived - perfect timing, as the rain gave the newly planted trees a much-needed drink.
I am told that these apple trees will take about five years to begin producing fruit. When they do, Gareth - who owns an apple press - has promised the páistí that he will return and make fresh apple juice with the children who helped plant the trees. This is a wonderful way to show the páistí how patience and care can lead to something very rewarding!
The school and all in junior and senior infants want to say a big go raibh maith agat to Gareth!
